Verizon Wireless Supports Rockefeller Public Safety Spectrum And Wireless Innovation Act

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Yesterday, U.S. Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, introduced the Public Safety Spectrum and Wireless Innovation Act.

Steve Zipperstein, vice president and general counsel of Verizon Wireless, applauded the bill’s introduction and said:

“Senator Rockefeller’s legislation combines the best from previous proposals in the House and the Senate and will provide the comprehensive wireless communications support our nation’s first responders need to protect us. While ensuring that public safety has the resources they need in times of emergency, the Public Safety Spectrum and Wireless Innovation Act will also ensure that all commercial providers will have an opportunity to partner with public safety in serving first responders across the country, including in rural areas and less served communities.

“By providing the financial resources required to build a world-class, interoperable wireless system from the proceeds of new wireless spectrum auctions, Senator Rockefeller aligns the three critical requirements for success: spectrum, funding and infrastructure.”
