TCloud-developed cloud computing system enters beta test under Chunghwa Telecom

TCloud Computing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Trend Micro, has finished development of its first Internet-based cloud computing operating system based on open source software, and the platform is currently being beta tested by partner Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), according to Trend Micro founder and chairman Steve Chang.

CHT will adopt the cloud computing OS to offer business-use IaaS (infrastructure as a service) and PaaS (platform as a service) by the end of 2010, Chang indicated. In addition, TCloud is in talks with China Mobile Communications in China and NTT in Japan, Chang pointed out.

The three telecom carriers and many fellow companies in Asia hope to provide their business customers with cloud computing services which are similar to Amazon's EC2 and S3, as well as offering API compatibility to the Amazon services, Chang said. This is to take the initiative in competition for business-use cloud computing applications in Asia before Amazon and other US-based competitors make forays into the market, Chang pointed out.
