Vmax Telecom, one of the six WiMAX operators in Taiwan, will expand its network to 400-500 base stations and expects the number of its subscribers to increase to 40,000 by the end of 2010, according to company president and CEO Teddy Huang.
With paid-in capital of about NT$2 billion (US$62 million), Vmax plans to raise NT$1 billion by issuing new shares or obtaining a syndicated loan in 2011 to continue expanding its WiMAX network, Huang said.
Vmax, Asustek Computer and Intel on August 4 jointly announced the launch of an Asustek netbook equipped with a WiMAX module based on an Intel WiMAX chip, which is expected to help Vmax promote its WiMAX service, according to Vmax.
