Opera.com welcomes Vietnamese speakers

Users in Vietnam can now enjoy browsing the Opera.com website in Vietnamese and get easier access to downloads.

Starting today, all Opera.com visitors who have Vietnamese set as their browser language will be automatically redirected to the native language site ( vn.opera.com ).

With new languages constantly being added to the Opera portfolio, Vietnamese enjoys an elevated status as a Tier 1 language. The Tier 1 status ensures a commitment from Opera to make its browsers as well as website available to Vietnamese speakers. This is a joint effort by Opera and members of the fast-expanding Vietnamese Opera community who assisted Opera employees in the process.

“Reaching out to emerging markets and welcoming them in the native language is key to providing an attractive service for our 130 million users,” says Opera Co-founder, Jon von Tetzchner. “Providing our increasing Vietnamese user base with a native language option will ease the information flow and download process.”

Opera has increased its reach in Vietnam in last the year with the popular Opera Mini browser , which works well with low-end phones. Providing the Vietnamese user group with native language tools to get access to Opera's browser family is the next logical step for expansion in Southeast Asia. Opera 10.61 for desktop and Opera Mini are both available in Vietnamese. The Opera Mini mobile web browser has proven popular in Vietnam, with an increase in users of more than 10 percent so far in 2010 over last year.

The Vietnamese-speaking people form a big part of the My Opera community of more than 5 million users. They are also among the most active - sharing photos, blogging and enjoying all the advanced features of the community.
