NCC explains stringent inspection procedures on China-made telecom equipment

Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC), in response to questions from industry players that it may want to block imports of telecoms equipment made by China-based makers including Huawei Technologies and ZTE through adopting stringent inspection procedures, explained that NCC is concerned about information and communication security risks incurred in using China-made telecom equipment.

Far EasTone Telecommunications and Asia Pacific Broadband Telecom, two 3G mobile telecom carriers in Taiwan, have orders for base station equipment from Huawei, but NCC has not yet approved the procurement, according to industry sources.
