MediaTek has denied a recent Chinese-language Apple Daily report that the company has acquired AST Wireless, a China-based developer of TD-SCDMA modem chips, for US$20 million, according to a company filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).
MediaTek claimed it has entered into a strategic alliance with AST, but does not have direct investment in the company. The partnership was announced in January 2010.
MediaTek also works with Leadcore Technology, another provider of TD-SCDMA solutions in China.
