Intel Taiwan says CEO visit yet to be confirmed

Clarifying comments by Acer chairman JT Wang that Intel CEO Paul Otellini will visit Taiwan in October to explain the company's actions in closing its WiMAX office, country manager of Intel Taiwan Jason Chen said that Otellini's schedule is not yet officially confirmed and the details are still under discussion.

Chen pointed out that the whole issue is simply a misunderstanding and Intel has never had any thought about quitting the WiMAX market and the action of closing the WiMAX office is simply an internal organization restructure, and the company normally does not inform its partners about such changes. Intel never meant to disrespect its Taiwan partners.

Chen added that Intel sent high executives to Taiwan every quarter to explain their future roadmap and has always kept close communications with all its Taiwan partners.

As for Intel's action of halting the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Taiwan, which generated concerns that Intel does not care for its Taiwan partners, Chen explained that Taiwan players are always the first to receive the latest information from Intel, therefore IDF Taipei does not seems to serve any more purposes and Intel has already shifted all the support from IDF to Computex.
