Infomax Communication, a handset design subsidiary of Macronix International, will introduce the iM9816 Android-based turnkey solution in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to the company. The new platform supports 416MHz processing and will be produced via TSMC's 55nm process.
Infomax is currently the only company to offer low-cost turnkey solutions for Android-based smartphones. More than 10 handset manufacturers in China have adopted its previous iM98154 solution launched in the fourth quarter of 2009 and introduced Android-based smartphones priced between 600-1,000 yuan (US$88-148). Several service providers and distributors in emerging markets including India's Lemon and Indonesia's Tphone are expected to distribute the smartphones.
