Digital Home Authority Sam Rosen Joins ABI Research

ABI Research has announced the appointment of Sam Rosen as Senior Analyst, Digital Home.

As a member of ABI Research’s Digital Home team, Sam focuses his current research on cable, satellite, IPTV and terrestrial pay TV set-top boxes, operating systems, middleware and user interface on the set-top box, and TV infrastructure equipment including video on demand, video servers, and ad servers. He also contributes to the growth and development of the company’s Digital Media Research Service.

Vice President and CRO Stuart Carlaw says, “Sam is extremely experienced in the set-top box domain; his considerable skill set will allow us to push deeper into the fast-evolving TV and video markets.”

For several years prior to joining ABI Research, Sam headed his own company, Blue House Tech, LLC, carrying out contract research and analysis projects for ABI Research and others.

He started his career in design and architecture of microprocessors and moved into customer-facing field applications and marketing roles. He has helped to develop disruptive core technologies used in diverse products including VoIP, digital cameras, video broadcast equipment, set-top boxes, femtocells, wireless handsets and wireless base stations.

He has worked as Design Engineer at Intel, Principal Architect at semiconductor IP start-up Lexra, and as a Principal Engineer at several wireless semiconductor start-ups. More recent positions have included those of Manager, Sales Engineering/Marketing at Faraday, and Field Application Engineer at Ambric.

Sam has been a member of IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society since 1992, and holds a patent for a High Performance RISC Instruction Set Digital Signal Processor.

He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Washington University and an M.S. in the same subject from Stanford University. He is currently working towards his MBA at Arizona State University. He is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
