Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) on August 2 announced it has invested NT$20 million (US$623,000) for a 18.18% stake in Taiwan-based CQi Energy Infocom to help promote the carrier's iEN (intelligent energy network) management service.
iEN, operated by CHT's Internet service business division HiNet, offers energy-saving solutions which use sensors to collect data of air-conditioned venues, such as temperatures, humidity and concentration of carbon dioxide, and transmit the data via networks, including the Internet and VPNs (virtual private networks), to a management center that controls energy consumption at those venues, according to CHT's website.
For the iEN operation, CHT will be responsible for developing an application platform based on cloud computing and CQi for developing CPE (customer premises equipment), CHT indicated.
In addition to the domestic market, CHT and CQi have begun promoting iEN in China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, the US and India since early 2010, CHT said.
