China TieTong Expands Its CTTNET National Backbone Network Capacity with Huawei' s NE5000 Routers

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, recently announced that it was selected by China TieTong Telecommunications Corporation (China TieTong), a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Mobile, as the sole provider for a massive expansion of CTTNET, a nationwide high-speed broadband IP network operated by China TieTong. Huawei will provide its advanced Quidway® NetEngine5000E (NE5000E) core routers for this project.

China TieTong' s CTTNET faces scalability challenges due to a growing number of subscribers and increasing traffic on the network. China TieTong' s already large number of broadband subscribers is expected to increase 35%, to 10 million, by the end of 2010 and traffic on CTTNET is growing between 70 percent and 100 percent each year. In order to meet this rising demand, China TieTong has embarked, in partnership with Huawei, on the CTTNET national backbone project (phase 5) to expand the service capabilities of the broadband network, and, in turn, to offer better services to its subscriber base.

Huawei was selected by China TieTong for the strength of its NE5000E routers which, with superb scalability and high stability, passed China TieTong's rigorous tests. As part of Huawei' s All-IP convergence strategy, the NE5000E is able to achieve a 2.56T port capacity, scalable to 200T. This highly-advanced router will methodically address the bandwidth bottlenecks that afflict core nodes of China TieTong' s network. In addition, the router' s patented resilient matrix and in-service hardware expansion (ISHE) will open up opportunities for seamless capacity expansion of router cluster systems and will maximize protection of carriers' investments.

"We believe that this project will provide the enhanced capacity, flexibility and scalability necessary to China TieTong to address the bandwidth demands of its growing customer base. The continued cooperation between China TieTong and Huawei will boost China TieTong's user experience in IP broadband services, and will bring faster, better services to its subscribers," said Hu Kewen, president of Carrier IP Product Line, Huawei.

Huawei successfully deployed the world's first 5T NE5000E 2+4 router cluster system in 2009. To date, the global cumulative shipments of Huawei's core router NE5000E and relevant cluster systems have reached over 2,000, which are widely servicing major global carriers, including SingTel, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and France Telecom (FT).
