More low-price smartphones based on the Android operating system (OS) will enter the China market with MediaTek and its subsidiary HiSilicon Technologies, and Infomax Communication expected to introduce cost-effective turnkey solutions for China's second-tier handset design houses and manufacturers.
HiSilicon, a subsidiary of Huawei Technologies, will introduce turnkey solutions for Android-enabled smartphones in the fourth quarter.
MediaTek is reportedly working with China-based handset design houses and manufacturers BBK, Agold Communications and Bird with volume production scheduled for the end of October, according to industry sources. Initially, the company will launch single-SIM card models, with dual-SIM card/dual stand-by devices planned for 2011.
Infomax, a subsidiary of Macronix International Company, has already introduced competing solutions.
Android smartphones powered by the HiSilicon and Infomax solutions are expected to be priced in the 500-1,000 yuan (US$73-148) range, the sources said.
